We arrive at the local establishment and Jackie is already waving from the bar. “We’re going to sit here and they are going to sit at the table,” Jackie says to the bartender. This was the prearranged deal we had, so Jackie and I could talk uninterrupted. I have been thinking about transferring to the middle school so I guess this was kinda my intervention.
Jackie pulls a list from her pocket. “I wrote a list of pros and cons, so how do you want to do this?” she asks.
I respond, “Up to you!”
“Well,” she starts, “ how about I do the pro and then the con of each one?”
“Ok,” I respond, glancing over the list she holds in her hand. Definitely way more cons then pros on that list. Jackie is like my big sister at school, she tells you what you need to hear not what you want to hear.
So we decide to attack the list, as our friends sit at the table behind us. We go point by point and I start to realize that she is right about me leaving. My school is my home, where people love me, care about me and accept me for who I am.
“Why would I want to leave this?” I start to think to myself. I get the grass is always greener feeling in my chest.
“Just think about it,” Jackie says as we rejoin our friends.
Deep down I know the decision I have to make, but it’s still a tough one. I take my seat at the table and dig in.
“What are you gonna do?” Dana asks.
“I don’t know,” I respond, “but how can you leave people that care about you this much?”
“You know I support you 100%, right?” Dana asks.“I know you do! That’s why I am gonna stay."
